Compressor HVAC: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

CAUTION: When replacing an A/C compressor which has failed internally, perform the following procedures to prevent contamination of the refrigerant system.
^ If A/C flusher is available, perform the Flushing procedure.
^ If A/C flusher is not available, perform the Refrigerant System Filtering after A/C Compressor Replacement procedure.
^ Replace the suction accumulator/drier.
^ Replace the A/C evaporator core orifice.

1 Remove the drive belt from the A/C clutch pulley.
2. Raise the vehicle.
3. Remove the RH front fender splash shield.







4. Loosen the bolt and remove the A/C manifold and tube assembly from the A/C compressor.







5. Disconnect the wire harness connector from the crankshaft position sensor.







6. Disconnect the wire harness connector from the A/C clutch field coil.







7. The lower rear bolt must be removed with the A/C compressor.
1 Remove the front bolts.
2 Loosen the bolt and remove the A/C compressor and bolt.

INSTALLATION
1. Lubricate the new A/C compressor with the proper amount of PAG Refrigerant Compressor Oil (R-134a Systems) F7AZ-19589-DA (Motorcraft YN-12-C) or equivalent meeting Ford specifications WSH-M1C231-B.







2. Install the lower rear bolt into the A/C compressor.







3. Install the A/C compressor.







4. Connect the A/C compressor field coil wire harness connector.







5. Connect the crankshaft position sensor wire harness connector.







6. Install the A/C manifold and tube assembly.

NOTE: Lubricate the O-ring seals of the A/C manifold and tube assembly with PAG Refrigerant Compressor Oil (R-134a Systems) F7AZ-19589-DA (Motorcraft YN-12-C) or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSH-M1C231-B.

7. Install the RH front fender splash shield.
8. Lower the vehicle.
9. Install the drive belt on the A/C compressor drive pulley.
10. Evacuate and recharge the system.
