Parking Brake System: Description and Operation
Parking BrakeOn E-150 and E-250 the parking brake is part of the rear drum brake assembly. On E-350, the parking brake is a drum-in-hat type system. On the E-450, the parking brake is mounted to the transmission extension housing. All systems are controlled by a foot-operated parking brake control mounted on the steering column support bracket.
On E-150, E-250 with multiplier, and E-350, the parking brake cable is self-adjusting. On E-250 with tension limiter, and E-450, the parking brake cable is adjustable.

The parking brake system is actuated when the parking brake control is depressed. The parking brake control applies tension to the front parking brake cable and conduit, the parking brake intermediate cable, and the parking brake cable equalizer. The parking brake cable equalizer is coupled to the RH parking brake rear cable and conduit, and the LH parking brake rear cable and conduit. The respective rear brake assemblies are then applied.
If the parking brake control is not fully released, the parking brake signal switch will illuminate the brake warning light.
The parking brake signal switch is mounted on the parking brake control.

The rear wheel disc brake assembly contains a cable actuated parking brake assembly.
If the parking brake control is not fully released, the parking brake signal switch will illuminate the brake warning light.
The parking brake signal switch is mounted on the parking brake control. The switch is held in place by a self-tapping screw and aligned with a locator pin.
