ON ACCEL - VEHICLES BUILT BEFORE 8/26/02
EQUIPPED WITH 5.4L ENGINE AND 4R100
TRANSMISSION

FORD:
2000-2003 E-350

ISSUE
Some vehicles equipped with a 5.4L Engine/4R100 transmission, federal Emissions, built before 8/26/02, may exhibit a rough idle and/or hesitation when accelerating. This may occur intermittently within the first 2-3 minutes after start when engine is not warmed up (ie. conditions other than hot restart). The condition may be aggravated by an unmetered air leak or exhaust leak. This may be caused by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) calibration.

ACTION
Perform thorough diagnostics in accordance with the PC/ED Workshop Manual and service any unmetered air leak, exhaust leak, wiring or other related condition. Reprogram PCM with updated calibration.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Reprogram PCM with updated calibration using WDS or NGS tester. Refer to the PCM Calibration Chart for details.

Obtain an Authorized Modifications Decal (FPS 8262 - obtainable through DOES II, 25/pkg) and list the date, dealer number, and summary of modifications performed. Select a prominent place adjacent to the Vehicle Emission Control Information Decal suitable for installing the Authorized Modifications Decal. Clean the area, install the decal, and cover it with a clear plastic decal shield.
