Exhaust System: Service and Repair

Exhaust System Alignment
1. Raise the vehicle on a hoist.
2. Loosen all exhaust component fasteners and clamps from the exhaust manifolds (gasoline engines) or the turbocharger (diesel engines) to the muffler inlet pipe or resonator (if so equipped).

3. NOTE: Make sure the exhaust insulators are hanging straight up and down.

Beginning at the front of the vehicle, align the exhaust system to establish the maximum clearance. Make sure the muffler extension pipe, the muffler inlet pipe, and the resonator are pushed all the way onto the preceding pipe and the notches are correctly lined up with the tabs.
4. Beginning at the front of the vehicle, tighten all fasteners and clamps to specification.
5. Start the engine and check the exhaust system for leaks.
