ISSUE

Some 2002 and 2003 model years 5.4L, 6.8L and 7.3L (only) Super Duty F-Series and Excursion vehicles may exhibit the following conditions:

2002 Model Year

^ 5.4L/6.8L applications - "Wait To Start" lamp illuminates and stays on and/or flashes intermittently

^ 7.3L applications - "Wait To Start" lamp does not shut off within calibrated time after key-on

^ 7.3L applications - "Wait To Start" lamp illuminates while driving and stays on

^ 7.3L applications - "Wait To Start" lamp flashes intermittently while driving

2003 Model Year

^ 7.3 applications - "Wait To Start" lamp flashes intermittently while driving

This condition refers to the illumination of the "Wait To Start" lamp only and does not affect engine starting and/or engine operation.

ACTION

If one of the listed conditions occurs, the instrument cluster needs to be replaced. Additionally, on some 2002 7.3L applications the powertrain calibration must also be reprogrammed in order to maintain compatibility between the instrument cluster and powertrain calibration. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

NOTE
SOME EARLIER LEVEL INSTRUMENT CLUSTERS WHEN USED IN CONJUNCTION WITH LATER LEVEL 7.3L POWERTRAIN CALIBRATIONS MAY RESULT IN A FALSE P0600 DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) ON F250/F350 WITH CALIFORNIA POWERTRAIN CALIBRATIONS AND ALL EXCURSIONS, DUE TO UNRELATED ADDITIONAL REVISIONS CONTAINED WITHIN THE POWERTRAIN CALIBRATION.

Figures 1 and 2 contain the proper instrument cluster part numbers and powertrain calibrations. Use the tables in Figures 1 and 2 as follows:

1. For 2002 5.4L/6.8L applications, locate the proper new instrument cluster part number.

2. For 2002 7.3L applications, locate the vehicles existing calibration level in one of the calibration identification columns labeled "Old" (Old PCM Part #, Old Catchword, and/or Old Calib. #). Then determine the corresponding new calibration level (where applicable) and matching new cluster part number. If a new calibration level is not shown, only the instrument cluster needs to be replaced.

3. For 2003 7.3L applications, locate the proper new instrument cluster part number.

Refer to the appropriate Service Publications for removal and installation of the instrument cluster and reprogramming of the powertrain calibration.

NOTE
USE WDS RELEASE B23.7 OR LATER FOR CORRECT PCM CALIBRATION INFORMATION.

Obtain an Authorized Modifications Decal (FPS 8262 - obtainable through DOES II, 25/pkg) and list the date, dealer number, and summary of modifications performed. Select a prominent place adjacent to the Vehicle Emission Control Information Decal suitable for installing the Authorized Modifications Decal. Clean the area, install the decal, and cover it with a clear plastic decal shield.
