Midship Tank

Powertrain Lift With Tilting Plate:






SPECIAL TOOL(S)

REMOVAL

All vehicles
1. If removing the fuel tank assembly for replacement of the fuel tank or the fuel tank solenoid valve, perform the Pressure Relief - Fuel Tank Venting procedure.







2. If removing the fuel tank assembly for replacement of the support straps or the spacers, turn in the manual lockdown valve jackscrew on the fuel tank solenoid valve.
3. Perform the Pressure Relief - Fuel Line Venting procedure.
4. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
5. Raise and support the vehicle.







6. Remove the inboard stone shield retaining nuts.







7. Remove the outboard stone shield retaining nuts and the stone shield.
8. Place identification marks on the fuel tank support straps and tank.







9. Disconnect the fuel tank solenoid valve.
^ Disconnect the electrical connectors from the fuel tank solenoid valve.
^ Disconnect the high-pressure fuel line from the fuel tank solenoid valve.







10. Install the powertrain lift with tilting plate.
1 Position the power lift with tilting plate.
2 Secure the fuel tank assembly with a nylon tie-down strap.

All vehicles except E-450







11. Remove the two fuel tank assembly support strap retaining nuts.

E-450 vehicles







12. Remove the two fuel tank support strap retaining nuts.

All vehicles







13. Remove the two fuel tank support straps.







14. Carefully lower and remove the mid-ship fuel tank from the vehicle.

INSTALLATION
1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

NOTE:
^ Align the identification marks on the fuel tank support straps and tank.
^ Replace the fuel line O-ring seal.
^ Lubricate the fuel line O-ring seal with 5W-30 engine oil meeting Ford specification WSS-M2C153-G or equivalent prior to installation, to help seal and ease the installation.
^ When tightening the fuel line, a torque wrench adapter must be used with the torque wrench. The use of a torque wrench adapter will alter the effective torque of the torque wrench being used. To correct the effective torque, a torque multiplication conversion must be used.
^ After installation, perform the fuel system leak test procedure. Fuel System Leak Test
