Normal Operation
The air bag indicator is designed to light for 6 (±2) seconds when the ignition switch is turned to the RUN position. This initial 6 seconds of air bag indicator illumination is considered normal operation and is called prove out of the air bag indicator.
The air bag Electronic Crash Sensor (ECS) module measures the battery voltage at Pin C2041-17, Circuit 937 (R/W). If the voltage is less than 9.0 volts or greater than 16.0 volts, the ECS will store DTC B1671 in memory and flash LFC 12 (or higher priority code if one exists) on the airbag indicator. If the voltage out of range condition is intermittent or returns to the normal range, the ECS will turn off the air bag indicator.
Possible Causes
Battery voltage out of range or a continuous air bag indicator can be caused by:
^ an open in Circuit 937 (R/W) preventing battery positive voltage (B+) from reaching Pin C2209-17.
^ a short to ground on Circuit 937 (R/W).
^ a concern in the charging system causing battery voltage to rise above 16.0 volts or drop below 9.0 volts.
