Transmission Shift Control Linkage
The transmission shift control linkage consists of:
^ a gearshift lever which connects to the transmission column shift selector tube on the steering column.
- A gearshift lever pin secures the gearshift lever to the selector tube.
^ a shift cable and bracket which connects to the transmission selector lever arm and support on the steering column and to the manual control lever on the transmission.
- The shift cable bracket bolts to the transmission.

Shift Interlock System
The shift interlock system consists of:
^ a shift lock actuator.
- An insert plate, which bolts to the steering actuator housing, secures the shift lock actuator to the steering column.
^ electrical circuits to supply power to lock and unlock the shift lock actuator.

The shift lock actuator locks the gearshift lever in PARK:
^ when the ignition switch lock cylinder is in the LOCK position.
^ with the ignition switch lock cylinder in the RUN position and the brake pedal released.

The shift lock actuator releases the gearshift lever:
^ when the ignition switch lock cylinder is in the FIRST position.
^ with the ignition switch lock cylinder in the RUN position and the brake pedal actuated.

Transmission Control Switch (TCS)
The transmission control switch (TCS):
^ seats in the end of the gearshift lever.
- A cover retains the TCS to the gearshift lever.
^ is a momentary contact switch.
^ commands the powertrain control module (PCM) to disengage or engage the overdrive function of the transmission.
- When overdrive (D) is disengaged, the message O/D OFF will illuminate on the instrument panel.
