Steering Column ShaftRemoval and Installation
1. CAUTION: Do not allow the steering wheel to rotate while the steering column intermediate shaft is disconnected or damage to the clockspring can result. If there is evidence that the column shaft has rotated the clockspring must be removed and recentered.
Remove the pinch bolt and detach the intermediate shaft from the steering column.
^ Discard the bolt.
^ Push the shaft seal out of the dash panel.
2. Raise and support the vehicle.
3. Remove the retaining screws and the skid plate (if equipped).
4. Remove the dust shield from the steering gear housing.
5. Remove the intermediate shaft pinch bolt.
6. Slide the intermediate shaft off the steering gear input shaft and remove the shaft.
7. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
