With Seat Integrated Restraints
FRONT SEAT BACKREST - WITH SEAT INTEGRATED RESTRAINTS (SIR)REMOVAL
WARNING:
- Always wear safety glasses when repairing an air bag supplemental restraint system (SRS) vehicle and when handling an airbag module. This will reduce the risk of injury in the event of an accidental deployment.
- After deployment, the air bag surface can contain deposits of sodium hydroxide, a product of the gas generant combustion that is irritating to the skin. Wash your hands with soap and water afterwards.
- Never probe the connectors on the air bag module. Doing so can result in air bag deployment, which can result in personal injury.
- The safety belt buckle pretensioner and safety belt retractor pretensioner are pyrotechnic devices. Always wear safety glasses when repairing an air bag equipped vehicle and when handling a safety belt buckle pretensioner or safety belt retractor pretensioner.
- The safety belt buckle pretensioner and safety belt retractor pretensioner are pyrotechnic devices. Never probe pretensioner electrical connectors. Doing so could result in pretensioner or air bag deployment and could result in personal injury.
NOTE: The drivers side is shown, the passenger side is similar.
1. WARNING: To avoid accidental deployment and possible personal injury, the backup power supply must be depleted before repairing or replacing any front or side air bag supplemental restraint system. (SRS) components and before servicing, replacing, adjusting or striking components near the front or side air bag sensors, such as doors, instrument panel, console, door latches, strikers, seats and hood latches.
Please refer to the appropriate component or system to determine location of the front air bag sensors.
The side impact sensors are located at or near the base of the B-pillar.
To deplete the backup power supply energy, disconnect the battery ground cable and wait at least one minute. Be sure to disconnect auxiliary batteries and power supplies (if equipped).

2. WARNING: To reduce the risk of serious personal injury, read and follow all warnings, cautions, notes, and instructions in the supplemental restraint system (SRS) deactivation/reactivation procedure.
Deactivate the supplemental restraint system (SRS).
3. WARNING:

Remove the affected front seat cushion.
4. Remove the safety belt pretensioner attachment nut and release the safety pretensioner from the seat.
5. Disconnect seat backrest recliner control cable, remove the front seat backrest recliner bolt and safety belt anchor nut.
1 Release the seat backrest recliner control cable from its two attachment points.
2 Remove the front seat backrest recliner bolt.
3 Remove safety belt anchor nut.
6. NOTE:
- Discard the two front seat backrest pivot bolts and install new bolts during reassembly.
- Slowly feed the recliner cable through the riser slot as the seat backrest is removed.
Remove the two front seat backrest pivot bolts and the seat backrest.
INSTALLATION
1. NOTE:
- Discard the two front seat backrest pivot bolts and install new bolts during reassembly.
- Do not overtighten bolts during installation.
Position the seat backrest at 30 degrees forward of vertical position. As seat backrest is lowered into position, route recliner cable through slot on outboard riser. Install the two front seat backrest pivot bolts.
2. Attach the front seat backrest recliner bolt and the safety belt anchor nut and the seat backrest recliner cable.
1 Attach the recliner cable to its two attachment points.
2 Rotate seat backrest into design position and install the front seat backrest recliner bolt.
3 Place belt anchor plate over bolt tip, ensuring anti-rotation tab is in riser slot and install safety belt anchor nut.
3. NOTE: The pivot bolt is susceptible to backing out of the joint when tightening the safety belt pretensioner attachment nut. Make sure the pivot bolt remains seated to the seat track.
Place the safety belt pretensioner over the pivot bolt, align the anti-rotation pin to the seat track, and install the attachment nut.
4. Install the front seat cushion.
5. WARNING: To reduce the risk of serious personal injury, read and follow all warnings, cautions, notes and instructions in the supplemental restraint system (SRS) deactivation/reactivation procedure.
Reactivate the supplemental restraint system (SRS).
6. WARNING: The restraint system diagnostic tool is for restraint system service only. Remove from the vehicle prior to road use. Failure to remove could result in injury and possible violation of vehicle safety standards.
With all the restraint system diagnostic tools removed, prove out the supplemental restraint system (SRS).
7. Check the active restraints for correct operation.
