Rear Wheel Speed Sensor





Material

Removal
1. Disconnect the battery.
2. Raise and support the vehicle.





3. CAUTION: Clean off dirt and debris that may have collected around the rear axle speed sensor before removal to prevent fluid contamination.

Remove the rear axle speed sensor.
1 Disconnect the electrical connector.
2 Remove the bolt.
3 Remove the rear axle speed sensor.

Installation





1. CAUTION: Use care not to get dirt in the rear axle housing.

Clean and inspect the rear axle speed sensor.
1 Clean the axle mounting surface.
2 Inspect and clean the magnetized rear axle speed sensor pole piece.
3 Inspect the rear axle speed sensor O-ring for damage. Install new if necessary.
4 Lightly lubricate the rear axle speed sensor O-ring with rear axle lubricant.





2. Install the rear axle speed sensor.

1 NOTE: Do not apply force to the plastic rear axle speed sensor connector.

Position the rear axle speed sensor and install the rear axle speed sensor bolt.
2 Connect the electrical connector.

3. NOTE: When the battery is disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the vehicle relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 mi) or more to relearn the strategy.

Connect the battery.
