Climate Control Hybrid Information
SYSTEM AIRFLOW DESCRIPTIONMAX A/C
When MAX A/C is selected:
- The air inlet mode door receives a full vacuum signal, closing off outside air and allowing only recirculated air.
- The defrost air inlet mode door receives a full vacuum signal, while the floor mode door receives no vacuum, closing both doors.
- The panel mode door receives a partial vacuum signal, directing airflow to the driver side, passenger side and center registers.
- The temperature settings can be changed.
- Air is picked up at the recirculation air inlet by the blower motor. With the temperature control set for maximum cold, air flows across the front A/C evaporator core, is diverted past the heater core, and is then directed into the passenger compartment through the driver side, passenger side, and center registers.
- The PCM enables the A/C compressor.
- The gasoline engine runs continuously.
- The blower motor is ON.
A/C
When A/C is selected:
- The air inlet mode door receives no vacuum signal, blocking the recirculation passage and admitting outside air.
- All other air inlet mode door positions are the same as described under MAX A/C.
- The temperature setting can be changed.
- The PCM enables the A/C compressor only when the gasoline engine is running.
- The blower motor is ON.
A/C RECIRC
When A/C RECIRC is selected:
- All other door positions are the same as described under MAX A/C.
- The temperature setting can be changed manually.
- The PCM enables the A/C compressor only when the gasoline engine is running.
- The blower motor is ON.
PANEL
When PANEL is selected:
- The air inlet mode door, with no vacuum being applied, allows outside air only.
- The panel mode door receives a partial vacuum signal to direct airflow to the driver, passenger and center registers.
- The defrost air inlet mode door receives a full vacuum signal and the defrost airflow door is at no vacuum, closing off airflow to the windshield defroster hose nozzles and floor ducts.
- The temperature setting can be changed to heat the air, but the air cannot be cooled below the outside temperature.
- The A/C compressor is only enabled due to a request from the traction battery control module (TBCM) to cool the high voltage traction battery (HVTB) and not the cabin.
- The blower motor is ON.
PANEL/FLOOR
When PANEL/FLOOR is selected:
- The air inlet mode door, with no vacuum being applied, allows outside air.
- The floor mode door and the panel air inlet mode door receive full vacuum signals, allowing airflow to blend between the panel vents and the floor ducts.
- The defrost air inlet mode door receives a full vacuum signal, closing off airflow to the windshield defroster hose nozzle and directing airflow to the heater outlet floor duct.
- The A/C compressor is only enabled due to a request from the TBCM to cool the HVTB and not the cabin.
- The blower motor is ON.
OFF
When OFF is selected:
- The air inlet mode door receives a full vacuum signal, closing off outside air and allowing only recirculated air.
- The panel mode door, the defrost and the floor doors receive no vacuum, closing off the passages to the driver, passenger and center registers.
- The blower motor is OFF.
- The A/C compressor is only enabled due to a request from the TBCM to cool the HVTB and not the cabin.
FLOOR
When FLOOR is selected:
- The air inlet mode door, with no vacuum being applied, allows outside air.
- The floor mode door receives a full vacuum signal, opening the door and allowing airflow through the floor ducts.
- The defrost air inlet mode door and the panel mode door are in the no vacuum position, closing off airflow to the windshield defroster hose nozzles and driver, passenger and center registers.
- The temperature control setting can be adjusted.
- The A/C compressor is only enabled due to a request from the TBCM to cool the HVTB and not the cabin.
- The blower motor is ON.
FLOOR/DEFROST
When FLOOR/DEFROST is selected:
- The air inlet mode door, with no vacuum being applied, allows outside air.
- The floor mode door receives a full vacuum signal, allowing air to flow through the floor ducts.
- The defrost air inlet mode door is in the no vacuum position, allowing airflow to both the windshield defroster hose nozzle and the side window demister hose nozzle ducts.
- The panel mode door is in the no vacuum position.
- The PCM enables the A/C compressor.
- The gasoline engine runs continuously.
- The blower motor is ON.
DEFROST
When DEFROST is selected:
- The air inlet mode door, with no vacuum being applied, allows outside air.
- The defrost air inlet mode door is in the no vacuum position, directing the airflow to the windshield through the defroster ducts and to the side windows through the demister ducts.
- The panel air inlet mode door and the floor mode door are in the no vacuum position so that most of the incoming air is directed to the windshield defroster hose nozzle. There is also airflow to the side window demister and hose.
- The temperature control setting can be adjusted.
- The PCM enables the A/C compressor.
- The gasoline engine runs continuously.
- The blower motor is ON.
