Seat Backrest - Front

Removal and Installation

WARNING: Never probe the electrical connectors on safety belt buckle/retractor pretensioners or adaptive load limiting retractors. Failure to follow this instruction may result in the accidental deployment of the safety belt pretensioners or adaptive load limiting retractors, which increases the risk of serious personal injury or death.

WARNING: To reduce the risk of accidental deployment, do not use any memory saver devices. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury or death.

NOTE: The air bag warning indicator illuminates when the restraints control module (RCM) fuse is removed and the ignition switch is ON.

NOTE: The supplemental restraint system (SRS) must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.

All seats

1. Remove the seat. For additional information,

Seats with lumbar

2. Pull and remove the lumbar adjust knob.






3. Remove the side shield screw behind the lumbar adjust knob.






Seats with a cushion inboard side shield

4. Remove the cushion inboard side shield rear screw from under the seat.






5. Remove the cushion inboard side shield front screw.






6. Remove the cushion inboard side shield.
1. Pull the cushion inboard side shield away from the seat to clear the safety belt buckle and pretensioner.
2. Rotate the cushion inboard side shield upward to release the rear pin-type retainer mount from the slot.
3. Hold the cushion inboard side shield in one hand and release the retaining clips holding the safety belt buckle and pretensioner boot to the cushion inboard side shield.
4. Remove the cushion inboard side shield.






7. Remove the pin-type retainer from the upper seat track mounting flange and install it back into the cushion inboard side shield.

Seats with lumbar

8. NOTE: Make sure the front seat back pad adjuster is in the fully retracted position.

Remove the lumbar control.
1. Remove the 2 screws.
2. Disconnect the cable from the lumbar control.
- Route out the lumbar cable from under the seat.






All seats

9. Remove the screw from behind the recliner handle.






10. Remove the cushion outboard side shield rear screw from under the seat.
If the seat is not equipped with a power seat track, remove the cushion outboard side shield.

Seats with power

11. Remove the cushion outboard side shield front screw and position aside the side shield.






All seats

12. WARNING: Use care when the seat back frame is removed and when releasing the recliners from a backrest upright position. The recliners are spring-loaded, which may cause the recliner upper arms to fold with significant speed/force. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.

Remove the 2 recliner bolts from the recliner assembly.
To install, tighten to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).






13. Remove the front seat backrest.
1. Remove the pivot bolt.
To install, tighten to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).
2. Pull the lumbar cable through the seat cushion.
3. Lift and remove the backrest assembly.






14. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
