Safety Precautions

WARNING: All vehicles are equipped with gas-pressurized shock absorbers which will extend unassisted. Do not apply heat or flame to the shock absorbers during removal or component servicing. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.

CAUTION: Suspension fasteners are critical parts because they affect performance of vital parts and systems and their failure can result in major service expense. A new part with the same part number must be installed if installation becomes necessary. Do not use a replacement part of lesser quality or substitute design. Torque values must be used as specified during reassembly to make sure of correct retention of these parts.

Observe all safety precautions when servicing the vehicle suspension system.

Suspension Components
The rear suspension system consists of these components:

Axle Jounce Bumpers
The rear axle jounce bumpers are used to prevent metal-to-metal contact between the rear axle and the frame.

Rear Spring
Semi-elliptic, leaf-type rear springs are used for the rear suspension.

Shock Absorbers
The rear shock absorbers provide the necessary suspension dampening control.

Stabilizer Bar And Links
The stabilizer bar and links transmit forces to control vehicle roll during cornering.

Rear Lean
A side-to-side lean at the rear of the vehicle can be adjusted approximately 10 mm (3/8 inch) by installing a shim between the rear spring and the rear axle on the low side of the vehicle. A "low at the rear" vehicle can be raised approximately 10 mm (3/8 inch) by installing a shim on each side of the vehicle.
