Power Locks: Description and Operation
HANDLES, LOCKS, LATCHES AND ENTRY SYSTEMSThe hood latch consists of the following components:
- Hood latch striker
- Hood latch
- Hood latch release handle and cable
On all doors with power door locks, the door lock actuator is removed as part of the door latch assembly.
The front door latch consists of the following components:
- Front door latch push button rod
- Exterior door handle
- Front door latch
- Door lock control switch
- Interior door handle
- Door lock actuator (if equipped)
- Door lock cylinder
The double latched side and rear doors consist of the following components:
- Upper door latch
- Lower door latch
- Door handle
The single latch side and rear doors consist of the following components:
- Latch remote control
- Door latch
- Exterior door handle (side only)
- Lock cylinder
- Door lock actuator (if equipped)
- Interior door handle
The exterior door handle on the rear door is part of the license plate housing.
The sliding door latch consists of the following components:
- Sliding door latch push button rod
- Push button rod remote control
- Exterior door handle
- Interior door handle
- Sliding door upper latch
- Sliding door remote control latch
- Sliding door lower latch
- Sliding door rear latch
- Door lock actuator (if equipped)
- Door lock cylinder
The remote keyless entry (RKE) system has 2 main components:
- Vehicle security module (VSM)
- Two RKE transmitters
The RKE transmitter initiates the following electronic system functions:
- Unlock the driver door
- Unlock all doors
- Lock all doors
- Enable the panic alarm
- Turn the interior lamps on (when unlocking) and off (when locking)
- Sound the horn once when the RKE transmitter LOCK button is pressed twice within 3 seconds and all doors are closed
- Sound the horn twice when the RKE transmitter LOCK button is pressed twice within 3 seconds and any door is ajar
- Allows up to 4 remote transmitters to be programmed
NOTE:
- The remote entry lock and unlock features function when the ignition switch is in the OFF, RUN, ON, or ACC position.
- The remote entry panic feature functions when the ignition switch is in the OFF, ON, or ACC position.
- The RKE transmitter has a normal operating range of 10 m (33 feet).
The RKE transmitters are reprogrammable and must be programmed at the same time. The RKE transmitters can be programmed by using the ignition lock cylinder method
To confirm that the doors have been locked, press the RKE transmitter LOCK button again, within 3 seconds of the first press. The horn sounds once if the doors have locked and all the doors are closed. The horn sounds twice if any of the doors are open.
To activate the panic alarm, press the RKE transmitter PANIC button. The horn sounds and the parking lamps flash for a maximum of 2 minutes and 45 seconds.
To deactivate the panic alarm, press the RKE transmitter PANIC button again, press the RKE transmitter UNLOCK button, or turn the key to ON/ACC.
