3. Disconnect the electrical connectors.
4. Disconnect the electrical connector position retainers, remove the nut, ground strap and mounting bracket.
5. Disconnect the oil fill tube.
6. Remove the bolt and the oil fill tube.
7. Disconnect the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve electrical connector.
8. Disconnect the quick connect couplings and remove the PCV tube. For additional information, refer to Fuel Delivery and Air Induction.
9. Rotate the PCV valve counterclockwise and remove the PCV valve.
10. Disconnect the wiring harness retainers from the RH valve cover studs.
11. Remove the pushpin retainers and the splash shield.
12. Disconnect the A/C compressor and the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor connectors and remove the tie-strap.
13. Remove the nut for the transmission fluid indicator and tube.
14. Remove the nut and position the transmission fluid indicator and tube aside.
15. Remove the stud bolts and position the RH fuel charging wiring harness aside.
16. Disconnect the RH 5 ignition coil electrical connectors.
17. Disconnect the RH 5 fuel injector electrical connectors and lift the fuel charging wiring harness off the valve cover.
18. NOTE: The red clip must be pulled out before disconnecting the electrical connector.
Disconnect the electronic throttle body (TB) electrical connector.
19. Position the fuel charging wiring harness into the passenger compartment.
20. Remove the 5 bolts and the 5 ignition coils.
21. CAUTION: Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges which make leak paths. Use a plastic scraping tool to remove all traces of old sealant.
NOTE: The fasteners are part of the valve cover and should not be removed.
Remove the RH valve cover.
^ Fully loosen the fasteners and remove the valve cover.
^ Clean the valve cover mating surface of the cylinder head with silicone gasket remover and metal surface prep. Follow the directions on the packaging.
^ Discard the valve cover gasket. Clean the valve cover gasket groove with soap and water or a suitable solvent.
Installation
1. Apply instant gel adhesive completely around the gasket groove in the valve cover. Install the new valve cover gasket.
2. NOTE: If not secured within 4 minutes, the sealant must be removed and the sealing area cleaned. To clean the sealing area, use silicone gasket remover and metal surface prep. Follow the directions on the packaging. Allow to dry until there is no sign of wetness, or 4 minutes, whichever is longer. Failure to follow this procedure can cause future oil leakage.
Apply a bead of silicone gasket and sealant in 2 places where the engine front cover meets the cylinder head.
3. Position the valve cover and the valve cover gasket on the cylinder head and loosely install the fasteners.
4. Tighten the fasteners in the sequence shown.
^ Tighten to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs).
5. Install the 5 RH ignition coils and the 5 bolts.
^ Tighten to 6 Nm (53 inch lbs).
6. Position the fuel charging wiring harness on to the engine.
7. NOTE: The red clip must be pushed in after connecting the electrical connector.
Connect the electronic TB electrical connector.
8. Position the RH fuel charging wiring harness and install the stud bolts.
^ Tighten to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs).
9. Position back the transmission fluid indicator and tube and install the nut.
^ Tighten to 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs).
10. Install the transmission fluid indicator and tube support bracket nut.
^ Tighten to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs).
11. Connect the RH 5 fuel injector electrical connectors.
12. Connect the A/C compressor and the CKP sensor connectors and install a tie-strap.
13. Position the splash shield and install the pushpin retainers.
14. Connect the RH 5 ignition coil electrical connectors.
15. Connect the wiring harness retainers onto the RH valve cover studs.
16. Rotate the PCV valve clockwise and install the PCV valve.
