Wheel and Tire - Dual Rear Wheel (DRW)
Wheel and Tire - Dual Rear Wheel (DRW)Removal
Wheel and Tire - Dual Rear Wheel(DRW):
WARNING: Aftermarket wheel assemblies may not be compatible with the vehicle. Use of incompatible wheel assemblies can result in equipment failure and possible injury. Use only approved wheel assemblies. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
WARNING: Use only integral 2-piece swiveling wheel nuts on vehicles equipped with dual rear wheels. Do not attempt to use cone-shaped 1-piece wheel nuts on these vehicles. If used, cone-shaped 1-piece wheel nuts can come loose during vehicle operation. Do not attempt to use past model wheels, which have cone-shaped wheel hub bolt nut seats, on this vehicle. Do not attempt to use present design wheels and wheel nuts on past model wheel hubs. Attempted use of intermixed wheels can lead to damage to the wheel mounting system and could result in wheels coming loose. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
1. If equipped, remove the wheel cover.
2. CAUTION: Do not use heat to loosen a seized wheel nut. Heat can damage the wheel and wheel bearings.
NOTE: Do not remove the wheel nuts at this time.
With the weight of the vehicle still on the tires, loosen the wheel nuts.
3. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to Maintenance/Service and Repair.
4. Remove the wheel nuts.
5. Remove the outer and inner wheel and tire assemblies.
Installation
1. WARNING: When a wheel is installed, always remove any corrosion, dirt or foreign material present on the mounting surfaces of the wheels or the surfaces of the rear hub that contact the wheel. Installing wheels without correct metal-to-metal contact at the wheel mounting surfaces can cause the wheel nut to loosen and the wheel to come off while the vehicle is in motion, resulting in loss of control. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
Position the inner wheel on the rear hub with the wheel dish facing inboard and the hub alignment pin protruding through the wheel index hole.
2. Make sure the wheel is flush with the rear wheel hub mounting surface so there is no gap between the rear hub and the wheel.
3. Position the outer rear wheel flush against the inner wheel with the hub alignment locating pin protruding through the wheel index hole.
4. NOTE: Do not tighten the wheel nuts at this time.
Install the wheel nuts.
5. With the wheel nuts loosely installed, turn the wheels until one wheel nut is at the top of the wheel hub bolt circle.
^ Tighten the wheel nut hand-tight.
^ In a crisscross-type pattern, tighten the remaining wheel nuts until snug to minimize runout.
6. CAUTION: Failure to tighten the wheel nuts in the sequence shown can result in high wheel and tire runout, which will speed up the development of brake roughness, shudder and vibration.
Lower the vehicle and tighten the wheel nuts to 200 Nm (148 ft. lbs.) in the sequence shown.
7. If removed, install the wheel cover.
