Antilock Brakes / Traction Control Systems: Description and Operation
Anti-Lock ControlAnti-Lock Brake System (ABS)
The 4-wheel, 4-channel anti-lock brake system (ABS) consists of these components:
^ ABS module
^ Front wheel speed sensor
^ Front wheel speed sensor ring (integral to the front wheel bearing)
^ Hydraulic control unit (HCU)
^ Rear wheel speed sensor
^ Rear wheel speed sensor ring (integral to the rear halfshaft)
^ Yellow ABS warning indicator
The front wheel speed sensor rings are integral to the front hub and bearing assemblies.
The rear wheel speed sensor rings are integral to the rear halfshaft.
Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) With Traction Control and Stability Assist
The anti-lock brake system (ABS) with stability assist consists of these components:
^ Active brake booster with integral solenoid
^ Brake booster release switch
^ Stability assist event indicator
^ Steering position sensor
^ Brake pressure sensor (part of HCU)
^ Stability assist switch
^ Lateral accelerometer (part of stability control sensor cluster)
^ Longitudinal accelerometer (part of stability control sensor cluster)
^ Roll rate sensor (part of stability control sensor cluster)
^ Yaw rate sensor (part of stability control sensor cluster)
