Oil Pump: Service and Repair

Removal
CAUTION: During engine repair procedures, cleanliness is extremely important. Any foreign material, including any material created while cleaning gasket surfaces, that enters the oil passages, coolant passages or the oil pan can cause engine failure.
1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
2. Drain the engine oil. Install the drain plug when finished.
^ Tighten to 23 Nm (17 ft. lbs.).
3. Remove and discard the oil filter.
4. Remove the 6 bolts and the oil pump.
5. CAUTION: Do not reuse the oil pump seal. A new service seal must be installed.
Remove and discard the oil pump seal.
6. Remove and inspect the oil pump drive gear, the driven gear and the cover. Install new components if necessary.
7. Inspect the face of the oil pump for flatness.
Installation
1. Install a new service oil pump seal on the oil pump.
2. NOTE: Lubricate the parts with clean engine oil before assembly.
Install the oil pump drive gear, the driven gear and the cover.
3. Position the oil pump and install the bolts. Tighten the bolts as shown.
1 Tighten to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).
2 Tighten to 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.).
4. Install a new oil filter.
^ Tighten to 16 Nm (12 ft. lbs.).
5. Fill the engine with clean engine oil.
