Timing Drive ComponentsRemoval
1. Remove the engine front cover.
2. Remove the camshaft synchronizer drive gear.
1 Remove the bolt.
2 Remove the camshaft synchronizer drive gear.
3. Rotate the crankshaft until the timing marks and keyways align.
4. Compress and install a retaining pin to hold the timing chain tensioner.
5. Remove the camshaft sprocket, the crankshaft sprocket and the timing chain as an assembly.
6. Remove the bolts and the timing chain tensioner.
Installation
1. Install the timing chain tensioner and the bolts.
^ Tighten to 12 Nm (9 ft. lbs.).
2. If necessary, retract the tensioner pad retracting mechanism and insert a retaining pin.
3. Rotate the crankshaft so the No. 1 piston is at top dead center (TDC) and the key is at the 12 o'clock position.
4. Turn the camshaft sprocket so that the timing mark is at the 12 o'clock position and is lined up with the timing mark on the balance shaft at the 6 o'clock position.
5. Install the timing chain, the camshaft sprocket and the crankshaft sprocket.
6. Make sure that the timing marks and the keyways are aligned.
7. Remove the retaining pin.
8. Install the camshaft synchronizer drive gear and the bolt.
^ Tighten to 45 Nm (33 ft. lbs.).
9. Install the engine front cover.
