This article supersedes TSB 03-15-4 to update the vehicle model years.

ISSUE
The Instrument panel paint on the 2004-2008 F-150 and 2006-2008 Mark LT vehicles have a high density of metallic flake in this paint. It can be scratched or marred during normal in service operation.

ACTION
Should a repair be needed you will find formulas from each refinish brand Paint Company as well as information on painting.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

The instrument panel design has four bands painted with "Warm Steel" color metallic paint (Figure 1).

Due to the high concentration of metallic flake in this single stage paint system you will not be able to spot repair the area. Blending is the only method that can be used even with a perfect color match. Blending areas should be unnoticeable due to the different color on adjacent trim parts next to the repair location.

Repairs can be completed from the bottom of the instrument panel to about six inches away from the windshield area due to paint gun size. Completely mask off the interior around the area to be repaired.

Each of the Ford approved refinish paint companies has a formula to mix repair material for this high metallic color.
