Removal
REMOVALEngine
Special Tool(s):
1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
2. Remove the hood.
3. Remove the intake manifold.
4. Remove the radiator.
5. Remove the powertrain control module (PCM) and the support bracket.
6. Remove the cowl panel grille.
7. Detach the wiring harness and the windshield washer hose from the cowl panel extension.
8. Remove the bolts and the cowl panel extension.
9. Disconnect the electrical connector and remove the bolt and the ground strap.
10. Disconnect the heater hose.
11. Remove the nut and the A/C manifold and tube assembly support bracket.
12. Disconnect the A/C compressor electrical connector.
13. Disconnect the degas bottle coolant hose.
14. Remove the bolts and position the power steering reservoir assembly aside.
15. Using the special tool, remove the power steering pump pulley.
16. Disconnect the power steering pressure tube.
^ Drain the power steering fluid into a suitable container.
17. Remove the nut and position aside the power steering pressure tube.
18. Remove the power steering pump bolts and position the power steering pump assembly aside.
19. Remove the starter.
20. Disconnect the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor electrical connector and harness retainer.
21. If equipped, remove the nut and the transmission cooler tube support bracket.
22. Remove the bolts and position the A/C compressor aside.
23. If equipped, disconnect the block heater electrical connector.
24. Detach the starter electrical harness support from the cylinder block.
25. Remove the drain plug and drain the engine oil.
26. Remove the oil filter.
27. Remove the bolts and the flexplate inspection cover.
28. Remove the cylinder block opening cover.
29. Remove the torque converter-to-flexplate nuts.
^ Discard the nuts.
30. Disconnect the LH heated exhaust gas oxygen sensor (HO2S) electrical connector and detach the electrical connector retainer.
31. Disconnect the shift cable and remove the shift cable bracket.
32. NOTE: The left upper transmission-to-engine bolt will be removed later.
Remove the 6 transmission-to-engine bolts.
33. Remove the bolt and position the transmission fluid filler tube aside.
34. Remove the 4 exhaust manifold flange nuts.
35. Remove the RH motor mount nuts.
36. Remove the LH motor mount bolt.
37. Support the transmission.
38. NOTE: On four wheel drive (4WD) vehicles, it may be necessary to reposition the transfer case vent hose to access the bolt.
Remove the left upper transmission-to-engine bolt.
39. Install the special tool.
40. NOTE: Raise the engine and position forward to disconnect the transmission wiring harness retainer at the rear of the RH cylinder head, disconnect the RH HO2S electrical connector and detach the electrical connector retainer.
Using a suitable floor crane, remove the engine assembly from the vehicle.
