High Pressure Oil Branch Tube



HIGH PRESSURE OIL BRANCH TUBE









Removal

Vehicles with the oil pump cover installed
1. Remove the turbocharger pedestal. Turbocharger
2. Remove the turbocharger inlet Y-pipe. Turbocharger





3. Remove the retaining nuts from the heat shield bracket.
- Position the ground wire aside.





4. Disconnect the wiring retainer from the back of the heat shield bracket.





5. Remove the bolts and heat shield.





6. Position back the heat insulating wrap and disconnect the fuel Injection Pressure Regulator (IPR) valve electrical connector.





7. If equipped, unsnap and remove the heat insulating wrap.





8. Using the special tool, remove the IPR valve.





9. NOTICE: Use care when removing the pump cover. The 3 bolts remaining in the pump cover under the EGR cooler can fall out of the pump cover and into the engine under the high-pressure pump.

Remove or loosen the bolts as needed.





10. NOTICE: To prevent engine damage, do not pry the high-pressure pump cover from the pump or damage to the cover can occur.

Use a thin gasket scraper to separate the cover from the crankcase at the rear cover seam.
- Remove the pump cover.

All vehicles

11. Remove the engine rear cover.
12. Remove the fuel injectors from cylinder numbers 6, 7 and 8.
13. Remove the rocker arms from cylinder numbers 7, 8 and exhaust rocker arm for number 6.





14. If necessary, remove the 2 bolts for the high-pressure oil branch tube adapter to high-pressure oil branch tube.





15. NOTICE: If the torx bit is dropped it will be necessary to remove the cylinder head to retrieve it.

NOTE: It may be necessary to access the bolt though the standpipe hole. The extension will be on a slight angle and a second technician is required under the vehicle in the rear cover area, to observe and guide the socket onto the head of the hold down bolt.

NOTE: Use a magnet though the standpipe hole in the head to remove the bolt.

NOTE: High-pressure oil branch tube removed from engine for clarity.

Position a 10 inch long x 1/4 inch wobble extension with a T27 torx bit though the cylinder number 6 exhaust push rod hole and loosen the high-pressure oil branch tube hold down bolt.





16. NOTICE: If the torx bit is dropped it Will be necessary to remove the cylinder head to retrieve it.

NOTE: It may be necessary to access the bolt though the standpipe hole. The extension will be on a slight angle and a second technician is required under the vehicle in the rear cover area, to observe and guide the socket onto the head of the hold down bolt.

NOTE: Use a magnet though the standpipe hole in the head to remove the bolt.

NOTE: The bolt head is not visible on this side.

NOTE: High-pressure branch tube removed from engine for clarity.

Position a 10 inch long x 1/4 inch wobble extension with a T27 torx bit though the cylinder number 7 exhaust push rod hole and loosen the high-pressure oil branch tube hold down bolt.
- Remove and discard the high-pressure oil branch tube.

Installation





1. Pack the high-pressure oil branch tube bolt holes with grease and install the 2 retaining bolts flush with the bottom.





2. NOTE: Install a new O-ring seal prior to installing the high-pressure oil pump.

NOTE: Only 2 bolts shown.

If the high-pressure oil pump is removed, install the high-pressure oil pump and 3 bolts.
- Tighten to 31 Nm (23 lb-ft).





3. Position the 2 bolts for the high-pressure oil branch tube adapter.





4. NOTE: Install a new O-ring seal for the high-pressure oil branch tube prior to installing into the engine.

Using a second technician to position the high-pressure oil branch tube into the engine. Loosely start the 2 bolts for the high-pressure oil branch tube adapter to high-pressure oil branch tube.





5. NOTICE: If the torx bit is dropped it will be necessary to remove the cylinder head to retrieve it.

NOTE: It may be necessary to access the bolt though the standpipe hole. The extension will be on a slight angle and a second technician is required under the vehicle in the rear cover area, to observe and guide the socket onto the head of the hold down bolt.

NOTE: High-pressure oil branch tube removed from engine for clarity.

NOTE: Left side shown, right side similar.

Install the 2 high-pressure oil branch tube bolts.
- While tightening the high-pressure oil branch tube assembly hold down bolts maintain a positive outward pressure on the high-pressure oil branch tube.
- Tighten to 14 Nm (124 lb-in).





6. Tighten the 2 bolts for the high-pressure oil branch tube adapter to high-pressure oil branch tube.
- Tighten to 14 Nm (124 lb-in).
7. Install the rocker arms for cylinder numbers 7, 8 and exhaust rocker arm for number 6.
8. Install the fuel injectors for cylinder numbers 6, 7 and 8.
9. Install the engine rear cover.
10. Finish installing the high-pressure oil pump. Oil Pump
11. Check and top off the engine oil.
