Power Locks: Description and Operation

Tailgate

Opening and closing of the tailgate is controlled by:
- Tailgate latches
- Tailgate latch actuating rod
- Tailgate latch release handle
- Tailgate latch remote control

Remote Keyless Entry (RKE)







The RKE system consists of the following:
- Vehicle security module
- RKE transmitter(s) (up to 4 RKE transmitters can be programmed to the vehicle security module at 1 time)

The RKE transmitter initiates the following electronic system functions:
- Unlocks the driver door
- Unlocks all doors
- Locks all doors and flashes the parking lamps, if all doors are closed
- Activates/deactivates the panic alarm
- Commands the interior lamps on (when unlocking) and off (when locking)
- Sounds the horn once when LOCK is pressed twice within 3 seconds and the doors are closed
- Sounds the horn twice when LOCK is pressed twice within 3 seconds, and any door is open

The RKE transmitters have a minimum operating range of 10 m (33 feet).

The RKE transmitters can be programmed using a scan tool or by using the ignition lock cylinder method.
