Wheel Bearing and Wheel Hub - F-450, F-550:





Removal and Installation

All vehicles
1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to Maintenance/Service and Repair.

Vehicles with ABS
2. Disconnect the wheel speed sensor electrical connector.
3. Remove the wheel speed sensor harness bolt.
^ To install, tighten to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.).





4. Remove the 2 wheel speed sensor harness bolts.
^ To install, tighten to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.).





5. Remove the wheel speed sensor harness-to-wheel knuckle bolt.
^ To install, tighten to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.).

All vehicles
6. Remove the 8 wheel extension nuts and the wheel extension.
^ To install, tighten to 176 Nm (130 ft. lbs.).

7. CAUTION: Do not allow the brake caliper to hang from the brake hose or damage to the hose can occur.

Remove the 2 caliper anchor plate bolts and position the caliper assembly aside.
^ Support the caliper assembly using mechanic's wire.
^ To install, tighten to 400 Nm (295 ft. lbs.).
8. Remove the brake disc.
9. Remove the 4 wheel hub nuts and the hub and bearing assembly.
^ Discard the nuts.
^ To install, tighten to 180 Nm (133 ft. lbs.).
10. Remove the brake disc shield.

Vehicles with ABS
11. Remove the wheel speed sensor bolt and the sensor.
^ To install, tighten to 18 Nm (13 inch lbs.).

All vehicles
12. Remove and discard the O-ring.





13. Position the hub and bearing assembly in a vise with protective caps and remove the 4 studs using 2 mounting nuts.





14. CAUTION: Make sure that the wheel hub and brake disc mounting surfaces are clean and free of foreign material.

To install, reverse the removal procedure.
