E-Guard Cargo Protection System
The optional E-Guard Cargo Protection System(TM) provides extra security for the side and rear cargo doors only. It is available with manual or power door locks. The system consists of the door latch, actuating cables, and shields to deter theft. The system double locks the doors by first locking the latch and then locking the door lock actuating linkage. The doors can be locked with the door lock rod, key, remote keyless entry (RKE) transmitter, or with the door lock control switch. The doors can only be unlocked using the key from the exterior of the vehicle or with the emergency release handle located on the inside of the door.
Locking/Unlocking Procedure With Power Door Locks
For vehicles with power door locks:
- All doors can be locked with the key, door lock rod, key fob, or the door lock control switch. The front doors will be locked and the cargo doors will be double locked.
- The front doors can be unlocked using the key, door lock rod, key fob, or the door lock control switch.
- The only way to unlock the side and rear cargo doors is with the key from the outside or with the emergency handle.
Locking/Unlocking Procedure With Manual Door Locks
For vehicles with manual door locks:
- All doors can be locked with the key or the door lock rod. The front doors will be locked and the cargo doors will be double locked.
- The front doors can be unlocked using the key or the door lock rod.
- The only way to unlock the side and rear cargo doors is with the key from the outside or with the emergency handle.

- Door lock cylinder
Power Lock/Unlock
The power lock/unlock feature requests all of the vehicle doors locked or unlocked upon a customer request from either door lock control switch in the vehicle. The power door locking system functions independently of ignition status or vehicle speed.
Autolocking
NOTE: The vehicle comes with the autolock feature disabled.
The autolocking feature locks all doors when all doors are closed, the ignition switch is in the ON position, the transmission is shifted into any gear putting the vehicle in motion, and a vehicle speed of 20 km/h (12 mph) or higher is achieved. This feature relocks the doors (if any doors are open), once all doors are read as closed, and the vehicle speed exceeds 20 km/h (12 mph). The autolocking feature can be enabled/disabled through the scan tool or the ignition switch and the door lock control switch. Refer to Autolock and Horn Chirp Programming. Autolock and Horn Chirp Programming
Memory Lock
The memory lock feature, relocks all doors once the sliding door is closed if they were locked electronically while the sliding door was ajar.
Remote Keyless Entry (RKE)
The remote keyless entry (RKE) system has 2 main components:
- Vehicle security module (VSM)
- RKE transmitters
The RKE transmitter initiates the following electronic system functions:
- Unlocks the driver door (with stepped unlock enabled)
- Unlocks all doors
- Locks all doors
- Activates/deactivates the panic alarm
- Issues a command to turn on the interior lamps (when unlocking) and off (when locking)
- Sounds the horn once when LOCK is pressed twice within 3 seconds, and the doors are closed
- Sounds the horn twice when LOCK is pressed twice within 3 seconds, and any door is open
- Flashes the park lamps once for each time LOCK is pressed, and the doors are closed
- If any door is open, the park lamps will not flash when LOCK is pressed until all doors are closed.
The RKE transmitter has a maximum operating range of 10 m (33 ft).
Up to 6 RKE transmitters can be programmed.
The RKE transmitters can be programmed using a scan tool or by using the remote keyless entry transmitter programming procedure. Refer to Remote Keyless Entry Transmitter Programming. Transmitter
Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) Transmitter Lock/Unlock Control - Unlock
The RKE feature provides lock/unlock functions independently of ignition status, vehicle speed, or transmission position. The RKE feature provides a 2-step (or stepped) process for unlocking the doors. Upon receipt of the first request for unlocking the doors, the RKE feature requests the SJB to unlock the driver door only. If another unlock request is received within 3 seconds of the first, the RKE feature requests that all doors be unlocked. The stepped unlock can be disabled, and will cause all doors to unlock on the first press of the unlock button. On enabling/disabling the two step unlock, refer to Stepped Unlock Programming. Stepped Unlock Programming
Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) Transmitter Lock/Unlock Control - Lock
The RKE feature requests that all the doors be locked when the LOCK button is pressed. On any press of the lock button with all doors closed, the RKE feature requests 1 flash of the park lamps. If any door is ajar, no flash occurs, indicating it locked all the doors but 1 or more doors are ajar. As soon as the last door is closed, 1 flash of the park lamps occurs. If 2 presses of the lock button are received within 3 seconds, the horn chirps once, and the park lamps flash twice to indicate that all the doors are closed and locked. If any door is ajar when the second lock request is received within 3 seconds of the first, the RKE feature requests the horn chirp twice without flashing the park lamps to indicate it locked all the doors, but 1 or more doors are ajar. When the key is in the RUN or START position, no park lamp flashes or horn chirp confirmations occur.
Panic Alarm
NOTE: The RKE panic feature functions only when the ignition switch is in the OFF or LOCK positions.
The panic alarm feature controls activation of the panic alarm, providing audible and visual alarms that are evident from the exterior of the vehicle. The panic alarm feature requests that the park lamps and horn are flashed until deactivation. The flashing of the outputs occurs at the same time. Activation of the panic alarm is accomplished by pressing the PANIC button on an RKE transmitter whenever the key is in the OFF or LOCK position. At all other times this feature is disabled. Deactivation of an active PANIC alarm is accomplished by:
- A second press of the RKE transmitter PANIC button
- The ignition switch transitions out of the OFF or LOCK position
- A period of 2 minutes and 45 seconds has elapsed since the initial activation
