Warning Devices
WARNING DEVICESThe instrument cluster (IC) provides both warning chimes and warning messages to alert the driver of certain vehicle conditions. The warning chimes are designed to provide the driver with an audible warning that acts as a supplemental alert. The warning messages are used in conjunction with a warning chime. The only deviation from this strategy is the air bag chime which is used to alert the driver that the primary alerting system does not operate. The instrument cluster (IC) controls all warning chimes based on messages received from external modules.
The chime function is contained within the instrument cluster (IC) and is not repaired separately.
The warning device system consists of the following:
- Instrument cluster (IC)
- Safety belt warning indicator switch (part of the safety belt buckle)
- Door ajar switch
- Key-in-ignition warning switch (part of the ignition lock cylinder)
The following warnings are used:
- Safety belt warning
- Air bag warning
- Key-in-ignition warning
- Headlamps on warning
- Generic message warning (used in conjunction with warning messages)
- Park brake warning
- Belt-Minder(R) warning
- Roll stability control (RSC) warning
The following warning messages are displayed in the integrated circuit display:
- SERVICE RSC NOW
- LOW FUEL
