Valve Cover - RH

Valve Cover - RH, 4.6L

Removal
1. Remove the engine air cleaner (ACL) and the air cleaner outlet pipe. For additional information, refer to Fuel Delivery and Air Induction.
2. Remove the engine cover.
3. Remove the LH engine support insulator.

4. CAUTION: Do not use the oil pan to support the engine or damage to the oil pan may occur.

Using a wood block to support the engine, slowly lower the engine and remove the jack.

5. Disconnect the quick connect couplings and remove the PCV tube. For additional information, refer to Fuel Delivery and Air Induction.
6. Disconnect the PCV valve electrical connector.

7. NOTE: Rotate the PCV valve counterclockwise to remove.

Remove the PCV valve from the valve cover.
8. Remove the oil fill tube support bracket bolt.

9. Remove the clamp and the oil filler tube.

10. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connectors.

11. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the bracket. Remove the nut, ground strap and bracket.

12. Disconnect the wiring harness retainer from the heater outlet tube stud bolt.

13. Remove the fuel charging wiring harness from the valve cover studs and position aside.

14. CAUTION: Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges which make leak paths. Use a plastic scraping tool to clean sealing surfaces.

Remove the RH valve cover.
^ Fully loosen the fasteners and remove the valve cover.
^ Clean the valve cover mating surface of the cylinder head with silicone gasket remover and metal surface prep. Follow the directions on the packaging.
^ Inspect the valve cover gasket. If the gasket is damaged, remove and discard the gasket. Clean the valve cover gasket groove with soap and water or a suitable solvent.

Installation
1. Apply instant gel adhesive completely around the gasket groove in the valve cover. Install the new valve cover gasket.

2. NOTE: If the valve cover is not secured within 4 minutes, the sealant must be removed and the sealing area cleaned with silicone gasket remover and metal surface prep. Follow the directions on the packaging. Allow to dry until there is no sign of wetness, or 4 minutes, whichever is longer. Failure to follow this procedure can cause future oil leakage.

Apply the silicone gasket and sealant in 2 places where the engine front cover meets the cylinder head.

3. Position the valve cover on the cylinder head, and install the fasteners loosely.
4. Tighten the valve cover fasteners in the sequence shown.
^ Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).

5. NOTE: Rotate the PCV valve clockwise to lock it in place.

Install the PCV valve.
6. Connect the PCV electrical connector.
7. Position the PCV tube and connect the quick connect couplings.
8. Position the fuel charging wiring harness and connect the retainers to the valve cover studs.
9. Connect the wiring harness retainer to the heater outlet tube stud bolt.

10. Position the bracket, and install the ground strap and the nut. Connect the electrical connectors to the bracket.
^ Tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).

11. Connect the engine wiring harness electrical connectors.

12. Install the oil filler tube and clamp onto the valve cover.

13. Install the engine oil filler tube support bracket bolt.
^ Tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).

14. Using a suitable jack, raise the engine 57.15 mm (2.25 in).

15. Install the LH engine support insulator.
16. Install the engine ACL and air cleaner outlet pipe.
17. Install the engine cover.
