Removal and Installation

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
2. Pull to release the retaining clips and remove the steering column opening lower finish panel.
3. Remove the steering column opening lower finish panel reinforcement.
1) Release the pin-type retainers and remove the electrical connector.
2) Remove the screw and data link connector (DLC).
3) Remove the bolts.
^ To install, tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-inch).
4) Remove the steering column opening lower finish panel reinforcement.





4. NOTE: To prevent selector lever cable damage, do not apply force to the selector lever cable assembly between the steering column shift tube bracket and the steering column bracket.

Disconnect the selector lever cable from the steering column.
1) Disconnect the selector lever cable from the steering column shift tube lever.
2) Carefully lift the locking tab and disconnect the selector lever cable from the steering column bracket.





5. Disconnect the cable pushpin from the stud in the bulkhead.
6. Push the rubber grommet and transmission selector lever cable through the bulkhead.
7. Remove the selector lever cable and bracket from the transmission.
1) Disconnect the selector lever cable from the manual control lever.
2) Disconnect the wire harness from the selector lever cable bracket.
3) Remove the bolts and position the selector lever cable and bracket aside.
^ To install, tighten to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).





8. NOTE: When installing the selector lever cable, make sure that the selector lever cable locking tabs are locked in place and the selector lever cable end is snapped onto the ball stud. Press the selector lever cable into the selector lever cable bracket and listen for the cable to click into place. Pull back on the selector lever cable to make sure that it is locked into the selector lever cable bracket. Also, make sure that the selector lever cable end is correctly installed onto the ball stud. Pull back on the selector lever cable to make sure that the selector lever cable end is correctly installed.

To install, reverse the removal procedure.
^ Adjust the selector lever cable. Refer to Selector Lever Cable Adjustment.

Removal and Installation
1. Disconnect the battery.
2. If equipped with tilt column, position the steering wheel in the full DOWN position.
3. Pull the headlamp knob to the ON position.
4. Insert a small screwdriver onto the clip and pull the knob outward.





5. Remove the headlamp switch bezel by turning it counterclockwise.





6. Remove the audio unit.
7. Remove the 2 instrument cluster finish panel screws.





8. CAUTION: To avoid damage to the instrument cluster finish, pull the panel forward just enough to access electrical connectors before completely removing the panel.

Remove the instrument cluster finish panel.
^ Disconnect the electrical connectors.





9. Remove the ignition switch lock cylinder.
1) Position the lock cylinder to RUN.
2) Using a suitable tool, push upward on the cylinder release tab through the hole in the lower shroud while pulling the cylinder outward.





10. Remove the upper steering column shroud.





11. Remove the selector lever. Disconnect the electrical connector.





12. NOTE: Install a new selector lever pin whenever it is removed.

To install, reverse the removal procedure.
