Removal

All vehicles
1. Remove the driveshaft.
2. Remove the transmission insulator nuts.





3. Install a suitable transmission jack.
4. Remove the transmission insulator bolts.





5. Remove the transmission insulator.
1) Raise the transmission upward, from the transmission insulator.
2) Remove the transmission insulator.





6. Disconnect the output shaft speed (OSS) sensor electrical connector.





Vehicles equipped with a fixed flange
7. Remove the output shaft flange.
1) Remove and discard the output shaft flange bolt.
2) Remove the output shaft flange.





8. Using the special tool, remove and discard the output shaft retaining nut.





9. Remove the bolts and the transmission extension housing.





Vehicles not equipped with a fixed flange
10. Remove the bolts and the transmission extension housing.





All vehicles
11. Remove and discard the extension housing gasket.





Installation

All vehicles

1. NOTE: Lightly lubricate the gasket with petroleum jelly to hold it in place during assembly.

Install the new extension housing gasket.





Vehicles not equipped with a fixed flange
2. Install the extension housing bolts.
^ Tighten to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).





Vehicles equipped with a fixed flange
3. Install the extension housing bolts.
^ Tighten to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).





4. Using the special tool, install a new output shaft retaining nut.
^ Tighten to 200 Nm (148 lb-ft).





5. Install the output shaft flange and a new bolt.
^ Tighten to 130 Nm (96 lb-ft).





All vehicles
6. Connect the OSS sensor electrical connector.





7. Install the transmission insulator.
1) Position the transmission insulator.
2) Lower the transmission onto the transmission insulator.





8. Install the transmission insulator bolts and nuts.
^ Tighten to 94 Nm (69 lb-ft).





9. Install the driveshaft.
10. Start the engine. Move the transmission range selector lever through all the gear ranges, checking for engagements.
11. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, engine running and the transmission at normal operating temperature 66-77° C (150-170° F), check and adjust the transmission fluid level and check for any leaks. If transmission fluid is needed, add transmission fluid in increments of 0.24L (0.5 pt) until the correct level is achieved (transmission fluid should be in the hot range cross-hatched area of the transmission fluid level indicator).
