Differential Carrier - Dana 70
Differential Carrier - Dana 701. Raise the vehicle on a hoist or raise the rear end of the vehicle with a jack. Install safety stands under the frame rails and lower the jack or hoist enough to allow the rear axle to drop into the rebound position for working clearance.
2. Remove the axle shafts.
3. To ease removal of the differential assembly, loosen the 4 bolts, then pry the differential case, 2 bearing cups and 2 outboard spacers outward until they are loose in the differential housing.
4. Remove the 4 bolts and the 2 bearing caps.
5. Using the special tools, spread the differential housing to the specification. Remove special tool 100-D002 after spreading the housing.
6. Remove the differential assembly with the 2 bearing cups.
7. Remove the 2 outboard spacers.
^ Tag the spacers LH and RH for installation location.
8. Assemble the 2 differential bearing cups to the 2 differential bearings.
9. Install the 2 outboard spacers in their original positions.
10. Using the special tools, spread the differential housing to the specification.
11. Install the 2 bearing caps and 4 bearing cap bolts, aligning the letters with those on the differential housing.
^ Tighten to 108 Nm (80 lb-ft).
12. Using the special tools, measure the differential ring gear and pinion backlash at 3 equally spaced points.
13. Carry out the Tooth Contact Pattern Check to verify the final pinion position is correct.
14. Install the axle shafts.
15. Fill the axle with the specified type and amount of lubricant.
