Test N: DTC C1446 - Base Brake Failure Brake Switch Stuck or Inoperative
Pinpoint Test N: DTC C1446 - Base Brake Failure/Brake Switch Stuck or InoperativeRefer to Vehicle/Diagrams, Vehicle Dynamic Systems for schematic and connector information.
Normal Operation
The brake fluid level switch is hardwired to the instrument cluster, a low fluid condition in the brake fluid reservoir will cause the red brake warning indicator to illuminate. The brake pedal position (BPP) switch is hardwired to the PCM. The ABS module receives brake pedal switch status from the PCM and brake fluid level status from the instrument cluster over the high-speed controller area network (HS-CAN) bus.
^ DTC C1446 Base Brake Failure/Brake Switch Stuck or Inoperative - If during normal operation the ABS module determines that the BPP switch information is invalid when compared to other inputs or if the brake pedal message is missing completely, DTC C1446 will be set. Also, a low brake fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir or an open, short to ground or short to voltage in the brake fluid level switch that the SJB interprets as a low fluid condition will cause DTC C1446 to be set.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
^ Low brake fluid
^ Wiring, terminals or connectors
^ Brake fluid level switch
^ BPP switch
^ ABS module
