Generator - Gasoline Engines

NOTE: This procedure applies to the 4.6L, 5.4L and 6.8L engines. The 5.4L shown, other engines similar.










Removal and Installation

All vehicles

1. Disconnect the battery.

5.4L and 6.8L

2. Loosen the band clamp and remove the air filter element, tray and inlet snorkel.

3. Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe.

All vehicles

4. Rotate the accessory drive belt tensioner clockwise (vehicles with A/C) or counterclockwise (vehicles without A/C) and position the accessory drive belt aside.

5. Disconnect the generator electrical connectors.

6. Position the generator B+ protective cover aside, remove the B+ terminal nut and position the B+ terminal aside.
- To install, tighten to 17 Nm (150 lb-in).

7. Remove the 4 bolts and the generator bracket.
- To install, tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).

8. Remove the 2 bolts and the generator.
- To install, tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).

9. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
