Pinpoint Test AM: The Message Center Is Not Operating Correctly

Normal Operation

The message center uses the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) RUN/START voltage, which is supplied on circuit CBP29 (WH/VT) and the keep alive memory B+ voltage on circuit SBP26 (YE/RD). The IPC logic ground is through circuit GD114 (BK/BU). The message center functionality is controlled through the message center switch.

- DTC B1A81:09 (Internal Trip Switch: Component Failure) - a continuous and on-demand DTC that sets in the IPC if the IPC detects SELECT/RESET button is held or stuck during a self-test or stuck for greater than 2 minutes during continuous operation.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- IPC

PINPOINT TEST AM: THE MESSAGE CENTER IS NOT OPERATING CORRECTLY

-------------------------------------------------
AM1 CHECK THE IPC ODOMETER DISPLAY

AM2 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IPC SELF-TEST

- Check for recorded DTCs from the IPC self-test.
- Is DTC B1A81:09 recorded?

Yes
CHECK for binding of the SELECT/RESET button on the IPC lens.

If the SELECT/RESET button is binding, REFER to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Lens Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Lens.

If the SELECT/RESET switch is not binding, INSTALL a new IPC. REFER to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). TEST the system for normal operation.

No
If all the message center indicators or message center messages are inoperative, INSTALL a new IPC. REFER to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). TEST the system for normal operation.

If an individual message center indicator is inoperative, GO to Symptom Chart - Information And Message Center Symptom Chart - Information and Message Center

If all the message center indicators or messages are functioning, the system is operating normally at this time.
