E-Guard Cargo Protection System
The optional E-Guard Cargo Protection System(TM) provides extra security for the side and rear cargo doors only. It is available with manual or power door locks. The system consists of the door latch, actuating cables, and shields to deter theft. The system double locks the doors by first locking the latch and then locking the door lock actuating linkage. The doors can be locked with the door lock rod, key, Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter, or with the door lock control switch. The doors can only be unlocked using the key from the exterior of the vehicle or with the emergency release handle located on the inside of the door.
Locking/Unlocking Procedure With Power Door Locks
For vehicles with power door locks:
- All doors can be locked with the key, door lock rod, key fob, or the door lock control switch. The front doors will be locked and the cargo doors will be double locked.
- The front doors can be unlocked using the key, door lock rod, key fob, or the door lock control switch.
- The only way to unlock the side and rear cargo doors is with the key from the outside or with the emergency handle.
Locking/Unlocking Procedure With Manual Door Locks
For vehicles with manual door locks:
- All doors can be locked with the key or the door lock rod. The front doors will be locked and the cargo doors will be double locked.
- The front doors can be unlocked using the key or the door lock rod.
- The only way to unlock the side and rear cargo doors is with the key from the outside or with the emergency handle.
Sliding Door
The sliding door latch consists of the following components:
- Sliding door latch push button rod
- Push button rod remote control
- Exterior door handle
- Interior door handle
- Sliding door upper latch
- Sliding door remote control latch
- Sliding door lower latch
- Sliding door rear latch
- Door lock actuator (if equipped)
- Door lock cylinder
Power Lock/Unlock
The power lock/unlock feature requests all of the vehicle doors locked or unlocked upon a customer request from either door lock control switch in the vehicle. The power door locking system functions independently of ignition status or vehicle speed.
Autolock
The autolock feature will lock all the doors when:
- all the doors are closed,
- the ignition is in the RUN position,
- the vehicle is shifted into any gear putting the vehicle in motion, and
- the vehicle attains a speed greater than 20 km/h (12 mph).
The autolock feature repeats when:
- any door is opened then closed while the ignition is in the RUN position and the vehicle speed is 15 km/h (9 mph) or lower, and
- the vehicle attains a speed greater than 20 km/h (12 mph).
The autolock feature can be enabled/disabled through the scan tool or the ignition switch and the door lock control switch. Refer to Autolock and Auto-Unlock Programming Autolock and Auto-Unlock Programming for programming information.
Auto-Unlock
NOTE: The doors will not auto-unlock if the vehicle has been electronically locked before the driver door is opened.
The auto-unlock feature will unlock all the doors when:
- the ignition is in the RUN position, all the doors are closed and the vehicle has been in motion at a speed greater than 20 km/h (12 mph),
- the vehicle has come to a stop and the ignition is turned to the OFF or ACC position, and
- the driver door is opened within 10 minutes of the ignition being transitioned to the OFF or ACC position.
The auto-unlock feature can be enabled/disabled through the scan tool or the ignition switch and the door lock control switch. Refer to Autolock and Auto-Unlock Programming Autolock and Auto-Unlock Programming for programming information.
Smart Unlock
The smart unlock feature prevents the doors from locking with the key in the ignition lock cylinder. When the SJB receives a lock command from a door lock control switch only, and the key is in the ignition lock cylinder with one of the front doors open, the SJB commands the doors to lock, then unlock.
The vehicle can still be locked by locking the doors with the push button rods, the door lock cylinder or an RKE command from a keyfob.
Memory Lock
The memory lock feature, relocks all doors once the sliding door is closed if they were locked electronically while the sliding door was ajar.
Remote Keyless Entry (RKE)
The RKE system has 2 main components:
- SJB
- RKE transmitters
The RKE transmitter initiates the following electronic system functions:
- Unlocks the driver door (with stepped unlock enabled)
- Unlocks all doors
- Locks all doors
- Activates/deactivates the panic alarm
- Issues a command to turn on the interior lamps (when unlocking) and off (when locking)
- Sounds the horn once when LOCK is pressed twice within 3 seconds, and the doors are closed
- Sounds the horn twice when LOCK is pressed twice within 3 seconds, and any door is open
- Flashes the turn signals once for each time LOCK is pressed, and the doors are closed
- If any door is open, the turn signals will not flash when LOCK is pressed until all doors are closed.
The RKE transmitter has a normal operating range of 10 m (33 ft).
Up to 4 RKE transmitters can be programmed.
The RKE transmitters can be programmed using a scan tool or by using the remote keyless entry transmitter programming procedure. Refer to Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) Transmitter Programming Transmitter for programming information.
Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) Transmitter Lock/Unlock Control - Unlock
The RKE feature provides lock/unlock functions independently of ignition status, vehicle speed, or transmission position. The RKE feature provides a 2-step (or stepped) process for unlocking the doors. Upon receipt of the first request for unlocking the doors, the RKE feature requests the SJB to unlock the driver door only. If another unlock request is received within 3 seconds of the first, the RKE feature requests that all doors be unlocked. The stepped unlock can be disabled, and will cause all doors to unlock on the first press of the unlock button. Refer to Stepped Unlock Programming Stepped Unlock Programming for programming information.
Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) Transmitter Lock/Unlock Control - Lock
The RKE feature requests that all the doors be locked when the LOCK button is pressed. On any press of the LOCK button with all doors closed, the RKE feature requests one flash of the turn signals. If any door is ajar, no flash occurs, indicating it locked all the doors but one or more doors are ajar. As soon as the last door is closed, one flash of the turn signals occurs. If 2 presses of the LOCK button are received within 3 seconds, the horn chirps once, and the turn signals flash twice to indicate that all the doors are closed and locked. If any door is ajar when the second lock request is received within 3 seconds of the first, the RKE feature requests the horn chirp twice without flashing the turn signals to indicate it locked all the doors, but one or more doors are ajar. When the key is in the RUN or START position, no turn signals flashes or horn chirp confirmations occur.
Panic Alarm
NOTE: The RKE panic feature functions only when the ignition switch is in the OFF or LOCK positions.
The panic alarm feature controls activation of the panic alarm, providing audible and visual alarms that are evident from the exterior of the vehicle. The panic alarm feature requests that the turn signals and horn are flashed until deactivation. The flashing of the outputs occurs at the same time. Activation of the panic alarm is accomplished by pressing the panic button on an RKE transmitter whenever the key is in the OFF or LOCK position. At all other times this feature is disabled. Deactivation of an active panic alarm is accomplished by:
- A second press of the RKE transmitter panic button
- The ignition switch transitions out of the OFF or LOCK position
- A period of 2 minutes and 45 seconds has elapsed since the initial activation
Perimeter Lighting Feature
Vehicles equipped with perimeter lighting can have this feature activated or deactivated. Refer to Perimeter Lighting Feature Programming Perimeter Lighting Feature Programming for programming information.
The headlamps, park lamps, and tail lamps illuminate when the unlock control on an RKE transmitter is pressed. The system will turn off the lamps if:
- The ignition switch is turned to the RUN position
- The RKE transmitter lock control is pressed
- After 25 seconds have elapsed since the perimeter lighting was activated
