Evaporative Emission Canister - Midship





Removal and Installation

WARNING: Always disconnect the battery ground cable at the battery when working on an evaporative emission (EVAP) system or fuel-related component. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and may be ignited. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury.

WARNING: Do not smoke, carry lighted tobacco or have an open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel-related component. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and may be ignited. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury.

All vehicles

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.

2. Disconnect the battery ground cable.

3. Remove the spare tire.

Regular wheel base

4. Remove the 4 Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister assembly bracket-to-frame bolts.
- To install, tighten to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).

Extended wheel base

5. Remove the 6 EVAP canister assembly bracket-to-frame bolts.
- To install, tighten the 4 larger bolts to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).

- To install, tighten the 2 smaller bolts to 20 Nm (177 lb-in).

All vehicles

6. NOTE: It may be necessary to position the EVAP canister and bracket assembly to the LH side of the vehicle to gain access to the right rear bolt.

Remove the 4 EVAP canister-to-bracket bolts.
- To install, tighten to 6 Nm (53 lb-in).

7. Slide the bracket out of the frame while support the EVAP canister assembly.

8. Disconnect the fresh air hose and the 2 fuel vapor tubes-to-EVAP canister quick connect couplings.

9. Disconnect the EVAP canister vent solenoid electrical connector and harness retainer(s) and remove the EVAP canister from the vehicle.

10. Place the EVAP canister assembly on a clean workbench.

11. If necessary, separate the EVAP canister vent solenoid and dust separator assembly from the EVAP canister.

12. NOTE: Lubricate the O-ring seals with clean engine oil.

To install, reverse the removal procedure.
