Pinpoint Test P: The Traction Control Indicator Is Never/Always On

Normal Operation

The traction control indicator flashes when the vehicle traction control or roll stability assist system is in active mode or is being controlled by the ABS module (roll stability assist) or the PCM (traction control). The Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) receives the traction control/stability assist signal from the ABS module (roll stability assist) or the PCM (traction control) through the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN) communication bus. The IPC monitors the traction control/stability assist signal and, when the ABS module (roll stability assist) or the PCM (traction control) detects a concern, the IPC illuminates the traction control indicator.

If the traction control message is missing for less than 5 seconds, the IPC defaults the traction control indicator to the last on/off state, based upon the last known good traction control status message received.

If the traction control message is missing for more than 5 seconds, the IPC sets DTC U0100:00 (traction control) or U0121:00 (roll stability control) in continuous memory and defaults the traction control indicator on.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Traction control/stability assist concern
- ABS module
- PCM
- IPC
