Instrument Panel

Removal and Installation

1. Remove the A-pillar and LH cowl side trim panels. Service and Repair

2. Remove the transmission selector lever. For additional information, refer to Service and Repair

3. Remove the steering wheel. For additional information, refer to Service and Repair

4. Remove the instrument panel side finish panels.

5. Remove the instrument panel center finish panel.

6. Remove the RH cowl side panel and disconnect the instrument panel connectors behind it in this order.

1. Disconnect the bulkhead electrical connector and detach it from the cowl.

2. Disconnect the electrical connector.

3. Disconnect the inertia switch electrical connector.

4. Disconnect the 2 ground strap bolts.





7. Lower the glove compartment and disconnect the instrument panel harness connectors.

1. Disconnect the vacuum harness connector.

2. Disconnect the instrument panel harness electrical connectors.





8. Disconnect the automatic temperature control solenoid and manifold electrical connector.





9. Disconnect the antenna lead-in cable.





10. Remove the parking brake release handle.

1. Remove the 2 screws.

2. Remove the release handle.





11. Disconnect the LH side instrument panel bulkhead electrical connector.





12. NOTE: Install a new steering column shaft-to-steering column bolt.

Remove and discard the steering column shaft-to-steering column bolt.

- To install, tighten to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft).





13. Separate the steering column shaft from the steering column.

14. From atop the accelerator pedal, disconnect the RH adjustable pedal electrical connector (if equipped).





15. From the LH side of the brake pedal, disconnect the adjustable pedal motor electrical connector (if equipped).





16. NOTE: RH side shown, LH side similar.

Remove the RH and LH instrument panel center braces.

1. Remove the 4 instrument panel brace bolts.

2. Remove the 4 instrument panel brace nuts.

- To install, tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).





17. Remove the 2 instrument panel bolts.
- Remove the covers and remove the bolts.
- To install, tighten to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft).

18. Remove the driver front seat. For additional information, refer to Service and Repair

19. Position the carpet away from the Restraints Control Module (RCM).

20. Disconnect the small RCM electrical connector.





21. Disconnect the stability control sensor cluster jumper harness electrical connector and detach the instrument panel harness from the floorpan.





22. Loosen the RH instrument panel bolts one half of the bolt length, but do not completely remove the bolts.
- To install, tighten to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft).

23. NOTE: The instrument panel may be supported by installing long bolts or threaded rods with the same diameter and thread pitch (in place of the LH instrument panel bolts), to support the instrument panel while allowing it to be moved away from the dash panel.

Remove the 2 LH instrument panel bolts and correctly support the instrument panel.

- To install, tighten to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft).

24. Position the LH side of the instrument panel rearward and disconnect the Smart Junction Box (SJB) electrical connectors.





25. Position the instrument panel back to the original position and remove the LH instrument panel supports (if necessary).

26. NOTICE: To avoid damage to the instrument panel, an assistant is required to support the panel before carrying out this step.

NOTICE: Before removing the instrument panel, make sure all electrical connector wiring is free and not caught up on other components or damage to the wire harness may occur.

Remove the RH instrument panel bolts and remove the instrument panel.

27. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Make sure to align the trim panel retaining clips to the adjacent retaining clip holes.
