Normal Operation

The Smart Junction Box (SJB) contains the all lock, driver unlock, and liftgate glass release relays. They are all non-serviceable relays. All 4 relays receive voltage through SJB fuse 6 (20A) and have an internal SJB ground. Based on input from the door lock control switches, keypad, or Remote Keyless Entry (RKE), the SJB grounds the coil side of the relays, which in turn energizes the relay, and sends voltage to the appropriate output.

If the SJB fuse 6 (20A) has failed or is removed, all 4 DTCs will be present.





This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Fuse
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- All lock actuators
- Liftgate glass actuator
- SJB



PINPOINT TEST F: DTC B1300, DTC B1982, DTC B2250, OR DTC B2671

NOTICE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.

F1 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED SJB DTCs FROM THE SELF-TEST


- Check for recorded SJB DTCs from the self-test.
- Are all 4 DTCs B1300, B1982, B2250, and B2671 recorded?

Yes
VERIFY the SJB fuse 6 (20A) is OK.

If OK, INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to Body Control Systems. TEST the system for normal operation.

If not OK, (Explorer/Mountaineer), GO to F2.

If not OK (Sport Trac), GO to F4.

No
INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to Body Control Systems. TEST the system for normal operation.

F2 CHECK THE LIFTGATE GLASS RELEASE OUTPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND


- Install a new SJB fuse 6 (20A).
- Operate the liftgate glass actuator by pressing the liftgate glass release switch.
- Is the SJB fuse 6 (20A) OK?

Yes
GO to F4.

No
GO to F3.

F3 CHECK THE LIFTGATE GLASS ACTUATOR FOR A SHORT


- Disconnect: Liftgate Glass Actuator C4040 .
- Install a new SJB fuse 6 (20A).
- Operate the liftgate glass actuator by pressing the liftgate glass release switch.
- Is the SJB fuse 6 (20A) OK?

Yes
INSTALL a new liftgate window latch. REFER to Liftgate Window Latch Liftgate Window Latch. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
REPAIR circuit CPL59 (BN/BU) for a short to ground. TEST the system for normal operation.

F4 CHECK THE ALL LOCK CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND


- Install a new SJB fuse 6 (20A).
- Operate the door lock actuators by pressing LOCK on the door lock control switch.
- Is the SJB fuse 6 (20A) OK?

Yes
REPAIR circuit CPL51 (BU/GN) or CPL52 (VT/GY) for a short to ground. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
REPAIR circuit CPL11 (GY/BN) for a short to ground. TEST the system for normal operation.
