Collision Avoidance and Parking Assist Systems: Description and Operation

Parking Aid

The parking aid system consists of the following:

- Parking aid sensors (located in the rear bumper)
- Parking Aid Module (PAM) (located on the cowl above and next to the brake pedal)
- Parking aid speaker (integral to the PAM)
- Parking aid disable feature (integral to the Instrument Cluster (IC) message center)
- Parking aid disable feature is not available when a MyKey(TM) is in use

The parking aid system calculates the distance to an object around the rear of the vehicle by the use of 4 ultrasonic sensors. The parking aid system sounds a warning to alert the driver of stationary objects near the rear bumper when REVERSE (R) is selected.

Video

The rear video camera system consists of the following:

- Video camera (located in the blue oval Ford emblem housing in the tailgate)
- Auto-dimming interior mirror (without navigation)
- Front Display Interface Module (FDIM) (with navigation)

For vehicles without navigation, the image from the video camera is displayed in the left portion of the auto-dimming interior mirror. For vehicles with navigation, the image from the video camera is displayed in the FDIM. The displayed video image is horizontally inverted from that viewed from the video camera perspective to mimic a conventional mirror image.
