Anti-Theft - Perimeter
Anti-Theft
NOTE: The Smart Junction Box (SJB) is also known as the Generic Electronic Module (GEM).
The perimeter anti-theft system consists of the following:
- Door ajar switches (part of the door latch)
- Door lock control switch
- Exterior lamps
- Hood switch (located on the middle of the LH inner fender)
- Horn
- Key-in-ignition switch (located in the ignition lock cylinder)
- Keyless entry keypad (if equipped)
- Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter (if equipped)
- Turn signal lamps
- SJB
The perimeter anti-theft feature is controlled by the SJB. The alarm can only be armed by using 1 of 3 actions:
- Pressing the LOCK button on the RKE transmitter
- Pressing the door lock control switch to lock with the accompanying door open, then closing the door
- Pressing the 7/8 and 9/0 buttons simultaneously on the keyless entry keypad (if equipped)
The door lock control switches cannot disarm the perimeter alarm.
The perimeter alarm can be disarmed only by using one of the following actions:
- Pressing the UNLOCK button on the RKE transmitter (if equipped)
- Using a key to turn the ignition switch to the ON position (this also deactivates an activated alarm)
- Entering the correct vehicle unlock code on the keyless entry keypad (if equipped)
In the event of an unauthorized entry, the SJB activates the alarm. When the alarm is activated, the SJB intermittently grounds the horn relay, causing the horn to sound in regular intervals, and intermittently powers the turn signals, causing the turn signals to flash in regular intervals.
An unauthorized entry is identified by the SJB when a door or hood switch is detected by the SJB as having been opened and no electronic unlock function (the RKE transmitter unlock button being pressed) or the correct vehicle unlock code was entered on the keyless entry keypad was received. If an unauthorized entry occurs at a passenger door or hood, the SJB activates the perimeter alarm immediately.
If an unauthorized entry occurs at the driver door by the SJB detecting the driver door ajar switch as being opened (with no electronic unlock command detected by the SJB), there is a 12-second delay with the Instrument Cluster (IC) issuing a chime and the message center displays TO STOP ALARM START VEHICLE during this 12-second delay. If a valid, programmed PATS key does not turn the ignition switch to the ON position within 12 seconds of the driver door ajar switch being detected as open, the SJB considers this event to be an unauthorized entry and activates the perimeter alarm.
An authorized entry is identified by the SJB as any of the ajar switches being opened after an electronic unlock command from a programmed RKE transmitter (or the correct vehicle unlock code was entered on the keyless entry keypad) has been detected by the SJB.
The perimeter alarm can be deactivated (not disarmed), by pressing the PANIC button on the RKE transmitter. This action cannot disarm the alarm, but stops the alarm from activation (horn sounding and turn signal lamps flashing). The perimeter alarm continues to be armed.
