Cruise Control: Description and Operation

Cruise Control

The cruise control system consists of the following components:

- Cruise control switches
- Cruise control indicator
- PCM
- Electronically-controlled throttle body
- Clutch Pedal Position (CPP) switch (manual transmission)
- Stoplamp switch
- Cruise control deactivator switch
- Clockspring

During normal driving the vehicle speed can vary slightly from the set speed due to road conditions. The vehicle speed can fluctuate when driving up and down a steep hill. If the vehicle speed decreases more than 16 km/h (10 mph) below set speed, the cruise control disengages.

It is normal for the engine rpm to increase slightly and then drop off slowly when the clutch pedal is pressed during cruise control operation.
