Pinpoint Test F: The Speed Dependent Interval Mode Does Not Operate Correctly

Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 81, Wipers and Washers for schematic and connector information. Diagrams By Number

Normal Operation

During normal operation, the windshield wiper motor receives vehicle speed information from the ABS through circuit VE822 (YE/BU). The speed dependent wipers function in all INT modes except INT 1.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Windshield wiper motor
- ABS module

PINPOINT TEST F: THE SPEED DEPENDENT INTERVAL MODE DOES NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY

NOTICE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) from the Flex Probe Kit when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.

F1 REVIEW THE DTCs

- Review the DTCs from the ABS and PCM self-test.
- Are any Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) related DTCs present?

Yes
For ABS DTCs, REFER to Antilock Brakes / Traction Control Systems.
For PCM DTCs, REFER to Computers and Control Systems Information.

No
GO to F2.

-------------------------------------------------
F2 CHECK CIRCUIT VE822 (YE/BU) FOR AN OPEN

- Disconnect: ABS C135.
- Disconnect: Windshield Wiper Motor C125.
- Measure the resistance between ABS control module C135-21, circuit VE822 (YE/BU), harness side and windshield wiper motor C125-4, circuit VE822 (YE/BU), harness side.

- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?

Yes
GO to F3.

No
REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

-------------------------------------------------
F3 CHECK CIRCUIT VE822 (YE/BU) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

- Measure the resistance between ABS C135-21, circuit VE822 (YE/BU), harness side and ground.

- Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?

Yes
GO to F4.

No
REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

-------------------------------------------------
F4 CHECK CIRCUIT VE822 (YE/BU) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

- Ignition ON.
- Measure the voltage between ABS C135-21, circuit VE822 (YE/BU), harness side and ground.

- Is any voltage present?

Yes
REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

No
GO to F5.

-------------------------------------------------
F5 CHECK FOR CORRECT WIPER MOTOR OPERATION

- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect all wiper motor connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion.
- pushed-out pins.
- Connect all wiper motor connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?

Yes
INSTALL a new windshield wiper motor. REFER to Wiper Motor Service and Repair.

No
The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. TEST the system for normal operation.
