Engine Control Module: Service and Repair
Powertrain Control Module (PCM)
Removal
1. NOTICE: Make sure the ignition switch is in the OFF position prior to working on the electronic engine controls or the vehicle may be damaged.
Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
2. Retrieve the module configuration. Carry out the module configuration retrieval steps of the Programmable Module Installation (PMI) procedure. For additional information, refer to Information Bus. Programming and Relearning
3. Remove the air cleaner element. For additional information, refer to Fuel Delivery and Air Induction.
4. Remove the transmission fluid level indicator.
5. Disconnect the PCM electrical connectors.
6. Detach the wiring harness retainer.
7. Remove the 2 nuts and the PCM.
Installation
All vehicles
1. Position the PCM and install the 2 nuts
- Tighten to 7 Nm (62 lb-in).
2. Attach the wiring harness retainer.
3. Connect the PCM electrical connectors.
- Make sure the wiring harness connector is attached.
4. Install the transmission fluid level indicator.
5. Install the air cleaner element. For additional information, refer to Fuel Delivery and Air Induction.
6. Restore the module configuration. Carry out the module configuration restore steps of the Programmable Module Installation (PMI) procedure. For additional information, refer to Information Bus. Programming and Relearning
7. NOTE: If the Instrument Cluster (IC) or the PCM (or both) is being replaced, the parameters must be reset in both modules or the vehicle will experience a Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) no start. This will occur even if the vehicle is not equipped with PATS.

8. Carry out the extended idle shut down initialization procedure. For additional information, refer to Extended Idle Shutdown Initialization Extended Idle Shutdown Initialization procedure.
