Exhaust Gas Recirculation: Description and Operation
EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION (EGR) SYSTEMThe EGR system is used to route exhaust gases back through the engine to reduce emissions. When the exhaust gases exit the exhaust manifolds they pass through the EGR oxidation catalytic converter (OC) before entering the 2 EGR coolers. After passing through both EGR coolers (in series) the exhaust gas enters the intake manifold by passing through the EGR valve.
