Transfer Case: Adjustments




Gearshift Linkage Adjustment

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to Vehicle Jacking and Lifting.

2. Inspect the transfer case shifter assembly for:
- visible signs of damage.

- corroded or damaged pivot bushings.
- Repair or install new components as necessary.

3. Inspect the shift control rod for:
- visible damage.

- bent or damaged rod.

- correct control rod for engine application.
- Repair or install new components as necessary.

4. Shift the transfer case to the 4 High (4H) position.





5. Loosen the 2 transfer case shifter-to-transmission adapter mounting bolts.
- To install, tighten to 115 Nm (85 lb-ft).

6. Verify the transfer case shifter is still in the 4 High (4H) detent position and hold the shifter handle against the 4 High (4H) stop while tightening the 2 transfer case shifter-to-transmission adapter mounting bolts.

7. Lower the vehicle.

8. Test the system for normal operation.
