Pinpoint Test AR: The ENGINE WARMING PLEASE WAIT XX Or ENGINE WARM OK TO DRIVE Message Is Inoperative/Always On (Diesel Only)

Normal Operation

The ENGINE WARMING PLEASE WAIT XX display informs the driver that the engine temperature is too cold to drive the vehicle. The ENGINE WARM OK TO DRIVE display informs the driver that the engine has warmed up sufficiently to safely drive the vehicle. The ENGINE WARMING PLEASE WAIT XX display is a countdown from 30 seconds. Once the countdown has reached 0 seconds, the message center displays the ENGINE WARM OK TO DRIVE message. If the engine stalls, the message center displays ENGINE WARMING PLEASE WAIT 01 until the engine is restarted. Once the engine is restarted, the countdown begins at 30 seconds again.

NOTE: The message center scrolls through all current messages and warnings. The ENGINE WARMING PLEASE WAIT XX or ENGINE WARM OK TO DRIVE message, if commanded on, displays in order along with any other warnings or messages that are also being displayed.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- PCM concern
- Instrument Cluster (IC)



PINPOINT TEST AR: THE ENGINE WARMING PLEASE WAIT XX OR ENGINE WARM OK TO DRIVE DISPLAY IS INOPERATIVE/ALWAYS ON (DIESEL ONLY)

AR1 CONFIRM THE DOOR AJAR WARNING MESSAGE OPERATION


- Ignition ON.
- Open the driver door while monitoring the message center displays.
- Is the DRIVER FRONT DOOR AJAR warning displayed?

Yes
GO to AR2.

No
INSTALL a new IC. REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) Instrument Cluster (IC). TEST the system for normal operation.

AR2 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE PCM KOEO SELF-TEST


- Check for recorded PCM DTCs from the Key ON Engine OFF (KOEO) self-tests.
- Are any DTCs recorded?

Yes
If the ENGINE WARMING PLEASE WAIT XX or ENGINE WARM OK TO DRIVE message is always on, REFER to Computers and Control Systems Information.

If the ENGINE WARMING PLEASE WAIT XX or ENGINE WARM OK TO DRIVE message is never on, INSTALL a new IC. REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) Instrument Cluster (IC). TEST the system for normal operation.

No
GO to AR3.

AR3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IC SELF-TEST


- Check for recorded IC DTCs from the self-test.
- Are any DTCs recorded?

Yes
For DTC U0100, GO to Pinpoint Test BD. Pinpoint Tests BD: DTC U0100

For all other DTCs, REFER to DTC Charts. Instrumentation, Message Center and Warning Chimes

No
INSTALL a new IC. REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) Instrument Cluster (IC). TEST the system for normal operation.
