Wheel Bearing and Wheel Hub - F-450, F-550
NOTE: RH shown, LH similar.
Removal and Installation
1. Remove the wheel and tire. For additional information, refer to Wheels and Tires.
2. Disconnect the wheel speed sensor electrical connector.
3. Remove the wheel speed sensor harness-to-radius arm bolt.
- To install, tighten to 15 Nm (133 lb-in).
4. Remove the 2 wheel speed sensor harness-to-axle bolts.
- To install, tighten to 15 Nm (133 lb-in).
5. Remove the wheel speed sensor harness-to-wheel knuckle bolt.
- To install, tighten to 15 Nm (133 lb-in).
6. Remove the 8 wheel extension nuts and the wheel extension.
- To install, tighten to 176 Nm (130 lb-ft).
7. NOTICE: Do not allow the brake caliper to hang from the brake hose or damage to the hose can occur.
Remove the 2 caliper anchor plate bolts and position the caliper assembly aside.
- Support the caliper using mechanic's wire.
- To install, tighten to 400 Nm (295 lb-ft).
8. Remove the brake disc.
9. Remove the 4 nuts and the wheel bearing and wheel hub.
- Discard the nuts.
- To install, tighten the new nuts to 180 Nm (133 lb-ft).
10. Remove the brake disc shield.
11. Remove the wheel speed sensor bolt and the sensor.
- To install, tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
12. Remove and discard the O-ring.
13. Position the wheel bearing and wheel hub in a vise with protective caps and remove the 4 studs using 2 mounting nuts.
14. NOTICE: Make sure that the wheel hub and brake disc mounting surfaces are clean and free of foreign material or excessive runout and/or vibration may occur.
To install, reverse the removal procedure.
