Seat Backrest - Front, Bucket and 40 Percent
Removal
WARNING: Use care when the seat back frame is removed and when releasing the recliners from a backrest upright position. The recliners are spring-loaded, which may cause the recliner upper arms to fold with significant speed/force. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.
NOTICE: To prevent system failure, it is necessary to carry out the Occupant Classification Sensor (OCS) system reset when a front passenger seat cushion is disassembled, a new trim cover installed or an OCS system service kit is installed. A scan tool is used to carry out the OCS system reset.
NOTE: For parts identification and location, refer to Seat - Exploded View, Front Seat - Exploded View, Front.
1. Remove the seat. For additional information, refer to Seat - Front Seat - Front.
2. Remove the screw and recline handle.
3. Remove the 2 screws and cushion side shield.
- Pull outward at the side and rear to release the 2 clips (1 shown).
4. Remove the outboard pin-type retainer and position the cushion cover flap aside.
5. Release the hook-and-loop strip at the rear inboard side of the cushion cover.
6. NOTE: Driver seat shown, passenger seat similar.
Release the rear cushion cover J-clip and disconnect the side air bag electrical connector.
7. Detach the retainers and route the side air bag wire harness out through the slot in the cushion cover.
8. Release the J-clip at the inboard side of the cushion cover and access the safety belt buckle and pretensioner.
9. Remove the safety belt buckle and pretensioner.
- Disconnect the electrical connectors and release all the wire harness pin-type retainers.
- Note the wire harness routing for correct installation.
- Remove the nut and safety belt buckle and pretensioner.
10. Disconnect the backrest latch release cable at the outboard side.
1. Disconnect the cable anchor.
2. Rotate and disconnect the cable end from the retainer.
3. Position the cable aside.
11. Disconnect the backrest latch release cable at the inboard side.
1. Disconnect the cable anchor.
2. Rotate and disconnect the cable end from the retainer.
3. Position the cable aside.
12. Remove the 4 bolts and backrest assembly.
Installation
WARNING: Make sure the front passenger seat repair is complete, the seat and all attached components (head restraint, seat side shield, etc.) are correctly assembled, and the seat is correctly installed to the vehicle before carrying out the System Reset. Failure to follow these instructions may result in incorrect operation of the occupant classification sensor (OCS) system and increases the risk of serious personal injury or death in a crash.
1. Position the backrest assembly to the seat track and install the 4 backrest bolts.
- Tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
2. Route the side air bag wire harness through the slot in the cushion cover, connect the electrical connector and attach the retainers.
3. Fasten the rear cushion cover J-clip.
4. Install the backrest latch release cable at the inboard and outboard sides.
5. Install the safety belt buckle and pretensioner.
- Install the safety belt buckle pretensioner and nut.
- Tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
- Install the wire harness and pin-type retainers as noted in removal.
- Connect the electrical connectors.
6. Install the cushion cover flap pin-type retainer.
7. Fasten the inboard side J-clip.
8. Fasten the inboard side rear hook-and-loop strip.
9. Install the cushion side shield and 2 screws.
10. Install the recline handle and screw.
11. Install the seat. If a passenger seat has been serviced, do not prove out the SRS at this time. For additional information, refer to front seat Seat - Front Seat - Front.
12. For passenger seat, carry out the Occupant Classification Sensor (OCS) System Reset. For additional information, refer to the General Procedures portion of Restraint Systems.
