Pinpoint Test C: The Interior Lamp Does Not Turn On With One Door Open

Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 89, Interior Lamps for schematic and connector information. Diagrams By Number

Normal Operation

When any door is opened, the door ajar switch closes and signals the Smart Junction Box (SJB). The SJB receives the door open signal and activates the interior lamp relay (internal to the SJB) and supplies voltage to the interior lamp.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Door ajar switch
- SJB

PINPOINT TEST C: THE INTERIOR LAMP DOES NOT TURN ON WITH ONE DOOR OPEN

NOTICE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.

NOTE: Failure to disconnect the battery when instructed will result in false resistance readings. Refer to Battery.

-------------------------------------------------
C1 CHECK THE DOOR AJAR PIDs

- Ignition ON.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: SJB DataLogger.
- Check the SJB door ajar switch PIDs (D_DR_SW, P_DR_SW, RRDR_SW, LRDR_SW) while opening and closing all the doors.
- Do the PID values agree with all the door positions?

Yes
GO to C5.

No
GO to C2.

-------------------------------------------------
C2 BYPASS THE DOOR AJAR SWITCH

- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Suspect Door Ajar Switch.
- Connect a fused jumper wire between the suspect door ajar switch as follows:

- Does the interior lamp illuminate?

Yes
REMOVE the jumper wire. INSTALL a new door ajar switch. REFER to Doors, Hood and Trunk &/or Locks. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
REMOVE the jumper wire. GO to C3.

-------------------------------------------------
C3 CHECK THE DOOR AJAR SWITCH GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

- Disconnect: Negative Battery Cable.
- Measure the resistance between the suspect door ajar switch, harness side and ground as follows:

- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?

Yes
GO to C4.

No
REPAIR the ground circuit in question for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.

-------------------------------------------------
C4 CHECK THE DOOR AJAR SWITCH INPUT CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

- Disconnect: SJB C2280c (LH Front) or C2280d (All Other Doors).
- Measure the resistance between the inoperative door ajar switch and the SJB as follows:

- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?

Yes
GO to C5.

No
REPAIR the input circuit in question for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.

-------------------------------------------------
C5 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION

- Disconnect all the SJB connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?

Yes
INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to Body Control Systems. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
